Hello Class-
I want to begin by saying the lesson on filamentality was both fascinating and exciting. I love the thought of developing a lesson plan that will encourage my students to use technology to complete the assignment. With filamentality, I the teacher, get to decide which websites my students would be visiting, thus knowing that the websites that they got their information were acceptable. The readings from last week emphasized the necessity of researching the web site you want to get your information from. I defiantly can see myself incorporating filamentality in my future lesson plans, at least on projects that will be done in school, (all my students may not have access to a computer). I also think by using a web-based research tool, the students may be more excited to the research project.
The ‘web quest’ readings were also very helpful. It broke down what needed to be done step-by-step in order to have a fun, clear, detailed site. I found the web quests to be similar to filamentailty, except that more space is provided on web quest. Web quest requires a link for an intro, a task, a process, evaluation and conclusion. While filamentality does not offer separate links for the other sections and pictures cannot be added to the page. .

Hi Leah,
I also thought the use of filamentality in the classroom is a great way to get students to use the internet in a productive, yet monitored way. Kids love to use the internet, so this type of assignment would be one way of getting them interested in learning.
I also thought that Filamentality was a cool program and a great way to keep students busy and entertained.
I also really enjoy that we, as teachers, are able to control what are students are researching. This way we are able to asses their assignments better because we know exactly what they are researching. We will know if they did a bad or good job researching. I also agree that using WebQuest and Filamentality are fun ways to get the students motivated to do research.
It is neat how a student is given a chance to both use their computer skills and learn by interacting with the lesson itself at the same time, all by using Filamentality.
Hey leah! I think you did an awesome job on your filamentality assignment! You have so much information avaliable to students!! I love the introduction, it made me really want to explore your stuff.
Don't forget to add into the introduction which Content Standards you fulfilled! also, for the Print and Color link #2, I would tell students to look in the pink chart, in the column for Name of Deserts. I was a little lost, looking when looking for Sonoran Desert in all those words. I really enjoyed the puzzle too. I even had a hard time trying to fit it all together since you had to make a perfect fit.
Overall, I think you did a really awesome job and chose a great topic!
I wanted to say Thank you for offering to view my URL for me! I really appreciated it! Secondly, you are right I liked the fact that I got to pick the websites that my students looked at. I thought it was a pretty clever way of keeping control over my students when they are on the web, that way they don't view anything that they shouldn't be veiwing. You did a fantastic job by the way. Take a look at mine if you want and have time. I did my for my actual fourth grade students, Once we finish the book!
